The TBD Report

A pulse check on competence and confidence from 100 Canadian automotive voices.

“..palms are sweaty, knees weak, arms are heavy” - Eminem

“Lose Yourself” captures the essence of how many people feel when entering a high-stakes situation. On the surface, you’re supposed to look calm and ready. But underneath?

It’s a battlefield of physical responses and psychological dread—the redlining before you even open your mouth. You’re competent. You’re doing the work. But your confidence? That’s To Be Determined.

After a decade in the trenches at Honda, Mazda, and JLR, I’ve lived it. I’m doing this because I want to know: was I alone? Or has anyone else been caught in this loop?

The Ask

I’m looking for 100 voices to anonymously share their “Lose Yourself” moment(s) in Canadian automotive at the National and Regional levels. I’m going to catalog these moments to find patterns and understand how people from within these specific groups handle them:

Interns, Co-ops, and New Grads identifying systemic cracks and inconsistencies before they’ve been taught to call them "normal."

The Ground Floor

Analysts, Specialists, Planners and Field Staff navigating the daily chaos of fire drills while battling the distance between their official title and their internal confidence.

The Engine Room

Leads, Managers, and Directors balancing rigid corporate KPIs with the human reality of managing teams in a volatile world.

The Decision Makers

Note: Future iterations of The TBD Report will be conducted at the Retail/Dealership level and abroad.

The Process
